Hi there! I was the motorboat driver for Holiday River Expeditions who helped push you off Reservoir Powell on July 27. Cool to meet more people focused on river conservation and quantifying the lessons to be learned from the Colorado River system. Wish we’d had more time to compare notes. I’m developing an exchange program to bring a group of young kayakers from Chilean Patagonia to the US to kayak the Grand Canyon. These kids live on the Rio Baker, which is threatened by a mega-dam project based in large part on the model set by the US and the Glen Canyon and Hoover dams. We want to show the kids what it means to dam a river and give them the tools to become stewards and activists for their home rivers. We have a big fundraising event at the David Brower Center in Berkeley in September (http://www.riostorivers.org/r%C3%ADos-to-rivers-brower-center-event.html). I wanted to let you guys know about a cool rock with 290 million year-old therapod tracks right beside the river. Its river left just past the Pinball boat access, about 6 miles downstream from Derby Junction. Thanks for taking the Mountain Gazette article seriously enough to comment on it. I will say that I am not convinced that we “anthropes” are evolved enough to take seriously the completion of the task we have undertaken – fairly witlessly, with more enthusiasm than care and longrange planning. Once the big bold strokes are done, we seem to lack commitment for the fine points and details – although if Denver Water can get sensitive to them, then anyone can. – George Sibley
